Born in Mexico City on September 12, 1959, her esthetic inquiries stimulated her professional growth in the arts and its different expressions.
Marcela studied design, art and interior decoration at the Motolinia University in Mexico City. She mastered engraving and silk screen painting at the Avante workshop in Cancun, Quintana Roo. She took human figure sketching classes at the Contemporary Art cultural center of Televisa, a Mexican television network, as well as painting at the Mercedes Escobar workshop in Mexico City.
She also got involved in the field of photography at the Mexican Contemporary Art cultural center.
At Anel Avila’s studio she learned to paint with the right hemisphere and learned the art of Talavera (traditional artistic ceramic of Mexico) Uriarte Talavera, in the state of Puebla. She attended a ceramics workshop by Gorki Gonzàlez in Guanajuato, Mexico. At present, she attends Luis Grande’s workshop, the “Olvido” ceramics workshop, artistic photography courses and workshops with Ignacio Urquiza and making collages on her own.
She has also given and directed several workshops and courses on engraving, Multiarte editions and commemorative landmarks at her own workshop.
Her first individual exposition was in 1991 at the Porto Bravo Club in Valle de Bravo, Mexico. Since then she has exhibited her work in different places;
In 1993, at the Orbe Art Gallery in Cancun, Mexico.
In 1995, at “La casa del dialogo” theatre in Mexico City, where she exhibited “Naturalezas vivas”.
In 1997, at Orbe Galleries in Cancun, Mexico, she exhibited a Talavera service. At the French embassy in Mexico City she presented “La couleur du Mexique”.
In 1998, at the Palacio da Independencia de Lisboa, Portugal, she presented “A cor do Mexico”.
In 1999, at SEDESOL, she presented “El color de Mexico”, and at the Kin Gallery “Interiores y bodegones”, both in Mexico City.
Between 1999 and the year 2000, she displayed her work in Jhey Vitala, in Mexico.
In 2000, Galeria Kin exhibited “Dialogo entre hermanas”.
In 2001, the Mexico City International Airport exhibited her work “De mil colores”, which was also exhibited that same year in Televisa, Guadalajara.
In 2003, the Dolores Olmedo Patiño museum displayed with great success “De mil colores”, in 2004 at the Galeria Arte de Oaxaca and in Casa Lamm and in 2005 in the Perisur Mall galleries.
In 2006 she was invited by the department of foreign relations, at the Chicago Consulate, to exhibit “De mil colores” as well as in Atlanta at the Defoor Center.
In 2007 she paints a book called “Mi alacena, al derecho y al revès”. Invest S.A. de C.V. publishes 1000 copied.
In 2008, at ye museo de bellas artes of Toluca, she exhibits “Sitios, espacios y objetos”.
Her work has participated in many collective expositions. In the city of Cancun, Mexico, at the IV expo of plastic arts, in Orbe Art galleries, and at the CREA youth center, where she was awarded with an honorable mention. Her work has been displayed at the American School art fair in Mexico City as well as at the art and photography workshops at the Contemporary Art Cultural Center and at the Juan Rulfo Cultural center. Her work has also participated in the “Muerte sin fin” expo at the SUMMA Artis gallery and at the Pemex and Probusa complexes. For several years she was invited to become part of the “Danos una mano” trade fair of the “Grupo de los 16”. She displayed her work at the Jesus Reyes Heroles cultural center at the S. Menche Gallery and at the SECOFI, IN Mexico City. She also was a part of the Magna Art auction Pro Nicaragua and participated at the “Una luz al mundo” expo at “Casa Lamm” in Mexico City, and in “Memoria joven de nuestro tiempo” which took place at the CenturyXX1 Medical center and in 2002, at the Antigua Art Gallery in Antigua Guatemala.
In 2003 she participates in the sculpture exhibit “El nopal urbano” sponsored by the Government department of Mexico City and in 2004, Imprenta Editors exhibit “Emartea, gracias por el fuego” at the Vizcainas College in Mexico City, which consisted of high temperature ceramics.
Marcela Lobo shows us, with her fresh and vibrant work, through one dimensional colorful shapes, the everyday world she perceives. With perseverance, tenacity and years of work she has reached a personal seal.
